Pavement-lights and smoke-outlets (Lights) are reinforced concrete structures that have to meet exacting standards of construction and use. Lights are often situated on the pavement and have to support a load of 10-tons. These structures are designed not to beak under these loads. Lights have to broken quickly by the fire-brigade to allow smoke out of the building. All these structures have been tested and are approved for use by the Fire Services.

Roof-, Pedestrian- and Floor-Lights do not have to support highway-loads and are often required to span wide openings. Floor-Lights have to be approved for slip when wet and most floors have to be fire-rated. Roof-Lights over a heated-space require a thermal-break.

hemis has the experience and knowledge to design any form of Light using any form of glass and thickness of slab you require. hemis will detail the bearings and seals and provide detailed calculations showing the strength, weight and thermal-properties of each slab.

All drawings and calculations are suitable for Building Control approval. If requested, hemis would submit the drawings to the local Building Control Office and act as your Agent throughout the project.
